The LINCS Career Pathways, Disabilities and Equitable Outcomes and the Reading and Writing groups will host a discussion on media literacy, the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication. The activity will explore the PIAAC Study Literacy Framework and how adult literacy practitioners can use it to support adult learners and Digital Literacy Initiatives, which includes information about OCTAE funded digital literacy initiatives for students and instructors.

Description:
Join the LINCS Career Pathways, Disabilities and Equitable Outcomes, and Reading and Writing groups for a discussion on media literacy, the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication. The activity will explore, among other resources, the PIAAC Study Literacy Framework and how adult literacy practitioners can use it to support adult learners and Digital Literacy Initiatives which includes information about OCTAE funded digital literacy initiatives for students and instructors. Participants will learn best practices in teaching media literacy in adult education.

Career Pathways, ABE, and ESL program staff interested in connecting contextualized instruction with media literacy education to support IET and career pathways.

Alice Huguet is an associate policy researcher at the RAND Corporation. She is interested in studying educational policies that may influence the academic and life opportunities of students attending urban schools.
Dave Middlebrook is a LINCS member and contributor whose work on text mapping and scrolls is closely aligned with both the stated purpose and interaction.
