Hosted Discussion: Element 6 of the Career Pathways Toolkit: Measure System Change and Performance (Asynchronous Discussion)

Description: Special guest, Casey Penn, Chief, Bureau of One Stop and Program Support Department of Economic Opportunity from the sunshine state of Florida will help us wrap up our deep dive and help us think about how we use data to inform career pathways success and future development.

Live Session:  Using Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) to Engage and Retain Adult Learners

Description: Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is quite familiar in K-12 instruction. However, it is really just beginning to be noticed in adult education. 2020 presented adult education programs, adult educators, and adult learners with incredible challenges. Dealing with school closures, introduction of new technology, learning at a distance, plus all of the emotional stress of a pandemic put a tremendous strain on programs, educators, and learners. Join us to learn more about this important element in our classrooms!

Live Session:  So Many EdTech Tools, So Little Time

Description: Join us for the So Many EdTech Tools, So Little Time Coffee Break Session. Rachel Riggs will discuss integrating EdTech tools into instruction. She will discuss best practices for integrating technology, creating a toolkit, and determining the appropriate types EdTech tools needed in an adult education class. Additionally, there will also be a discussion about the number of EdTech tools truly necessary to incorporate into your adult ed instruction.

Live Session:  Decoding Instructional Strategies - Part 1

Description: Do your adult students struggle to decode unfamiliar words? Join the LINCS Reading and Writing and English Language Acquisition community groups for two live sessions on May 13 and 18 from 2 to 4 PM ET as Dr. Daphne Greenberg and her colleagues demonstrate a number of decoding and spelling instructional strategies. You will learn different tools for teaching letter-sound relationships, including tricky sounds and vowel combinations, two different approaches to decomposing multisyllabic words, and an organizational framework that can help our adult learners read unfamiliar words in an independent, flexible, and efficient manner.

Live Session:  Career and College Planning in Adult Education: What we are Learning from Research and Practice

Description: We are thrilled to host Dr. Judith Alamprese for a live event when she will share information about class-based and individually guided approaches for working with adult education  learners to help them determine their skills, interests, and abilities and learn about the local labor market and types of education and training they need to be able to obtain employment that aligns with their interests and skills. She will share other examples of supports adult learners need to prepare a career plan for their next steps in their journey.
