Live Session:  Funds of Knowledge for Adult Learners

Description:  Please join the Math and Numeracy group to learn how to apply funds of knowledge in math classrooms to create an environment that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive to our learners. Tiffini Pruitt-Britton will share her research on the usefulness of using funds of knowledge in the classroom.

Live Session:  Science and Literacy Practices Working Together

Description:  Is it possible to improve student reading and writing skills while teaching science content? Yes, it is! Please join the Reading and Writing group and the Science group to learn about incorporating skill development tools like interactive read-alouds, graphic organizers, and writing scaffolds into science teaching and learning. These methods will work for other content areas too!

Description:  Do you struggle to keep your students engaged, motivated, and active in your distance learning programs? Please join Claire Gilliam and Ashly Winkle to discuss student and staff best practices for distance learning programs -- we will learn from one another about this important topic during a critical time!

Live Session:  Promoting Innovation in Adult Education

Description:  Local adult education programs help adult learners develop knowledge and skills, gain secondary credentials, and transition to further education and employment. Such programs have helped adult learners who have faced unemployment due to the pandemic learn new skills to return to work safely. Join Melissa Zervos and the Program Management group to consider some of the innovative and promising practices implemented by Adult Education and Family Literacy Act local programs, identified through the U.S. Department of Education Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education’s Advancing Innovation in Adult Education program.

Live Session:  Social Emotional Learning Strategies for the Adult Education Classroom

Description:  Social emotional learning (SEL) can be used to foster the development of skills that help us navigate life. These skills, such as goal setting, managing emotions, and decision making are useful throughout a learner’s lifespan. In this session, participants will learn the core competencies of SEL and strategies for incorporating SEL with adult learners.
