Live Session:  Teaching the Anxious and Depressed Student

Description:  How can we help anxious students succeed in our classrooms? The pandemic triggered a large increase in the number of students who suffer from anxiety and depression. Trauma and chronic stress lead to anxiety and depression and make learning a challenge. Join the Reading & Writing and Teaching & Learning groups to learn more about the signs and symptoms of anxiety and depression and consider trauma-informed teaching practices to support learning and increase student retention.

Live Session: Coffee break with Cheryl Keenan, Director of Adult Education and Literacy, OCTAE

Description: Please join the LINCS Community for a Coffee Break with Cheryl Keenan, Director of Adult Education and Literacy in the Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education. After serving in the role for 20 years, Cheryl Keenan will be retiring on June 2, 2022. In her 20 years of public service in OCTAE, Keenan has overseen the office which funds close to $700 million in state and local grant programs to enable adults to improve their literacy and basic skills; complete high school; transition to postsecondary education and training; and succeed as workers, parents, and citizens. During the coffee break, Cheryl will share reflections from her time as the Director of Adult Education and Literacy.

Live Session:  Using Tutors to Improve Adult Learner Math Skills

Description:  Many adult learners struggle with math instruction.  Join us to consider promising practices for using tutors to support math instruction in the adult education class and explore how Universal Design for Learning can be incorporated into the math classroom. Be ready to share ideas, ask questions, and walk away with resources and new practices that can be applied to your program.

Live Session: Adult Education and Resettled Refugees in the United States

Description: Join Katie Neginskiy and the English Language Acquisition group to learn how to enhance instructional strategies to account for the specific experiences and circumstances of newly resettled refugees. Special emphasis will be placed on trauma-informed practices.
