During this coffee break, Elizabeth Jackson with the Literacy Assistance Center will discuss the various reasons why students may struggle with time management and provide tips and strategies to help students improve their time management skills.

Live Session: Appreciation or Appropriation: Culturally Respectful Celebrations as Learning Experiences
Description: Each holiday presents new learning opportunities for adult learners. Whether they be significant religious, historical holidays, and cultural celebrations or obscure recognition events, such as, "National Nothing Day” (Jan 16th). What is the role of educators in demonstrating to our students that cultural celebrations are an opportunity to learn and respect the groups being celebrated? During this session, we will define and discuss cultural appropriation—how to avoid it, and how to engage learners about history and culture in ways that aren’t exploitive or stereotypical.

Description: Join us with our guest presenter, Domminick McParland, OCTAE Education Program Specialist to learn how your program can participate and benefit from the Gateways to Access and Inclusion Network (GAIN) Project. OCTAE and USCIS are collaborating on this new initiative, which is aimed at creating a federal immigrant integration framework. One of the first steps for this effort is to conduct a variety of information gathering activities (lit review/landscape scan/roundtable discussions/public listening sessions).
