Call For Proposals: Minority Serving Community Colleges: Celebrating Student Success, national convening at the U.S. Dept. of Ed.

Dear Colleague:

Your college is invited to participate in a national convening at the U.S. Department of Education, Minority Serving Community Colleges: Celebrating Student Success. The event will take place on November 14 and 15, 2017, in Washington, DC. The registration site will be available in mid-September.

Presentations are now being solicited for concurrent sessions during the convening. Priority will be given to presentation proposals conforming to the guidelines below.

Note: Due to space limitations, no more than 2 attendees from any one college or organization will be allowed to attend this event. Please consider this when submitting a presentation proposal, and please do not submit presentations with more than two authors from the same college.

Non-colleges (such as 4-year institutions, foundations, non-profits, other federal agencies) are welcome to submit a proposal, but the presentation must include a representative from at least one community or technical college for a peer perspective.

DEADLINE FOR PRESENTATION SUBMISSION—September 29, 2017

All abstracts should be submitted online at http://conference.novaresearch.com/MSI2017/.

Presentation blocks will be approximately 20-30 minutes. Submitted presentations should include a half-page abstract and no more than 7 PowerPoint slides illustrating the presentation (one title slide and six content slides using the template provided on the website). Presentations with more than 7 slides will not be considered. To accommodate the time needed for the Department of Education's review process, PowerPoints slides should be considered final upon submission to this portal.

Abstracts must be a half page, singled-spaced, 12-point font and include:

  1. Title of abstract
  2. Author name(s), affiliation(s)
  3. Primary presenter, affiliation, and email
  4. Session Topic:
    • Career Pathways Development and Implementation
    • "Earn and Learn" Models: Apprenticeship, Work-Based Learning, and More
    • Dual Enrollment and K-12 Connections
    • Student Financial Literacy and Empowerment
    • Instructor Recruitment from Industry
    • Strategies for Supporting Low-Income and Homeless Students
    • Other [please specify]
