How can you ensure that not just diagnosed students get the support they need? This session will discuss your 'college partner', the Disability Support Services office! But what about the struggling student who lacks a formal diagnosis? Join this critical webinar to learn how the Disability Support Services office at Northwestern Michigan College is supporting students struggling with learning challenges (such as visual stress syndrome, inadequate binocularity, or harboring a victim mindset) through campus collaboration and specialized screenings. Leanne BaumelerLeanne Baumeler has been a certified Sign Language interpreter for over 25 years and earned her Social Work degree from Ferris State University. Through her affiliation with Michigan Rehabilitation Services and Disability Network Northern Michigan, she has worked with both children and adults struggling with a variety of learning challenges. Currently, Leanne is the Disability Support Services Specialist at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City where she coordinates classroom accommodations for students with disabilities. I wanted to share with you something that you may not want to miss. This NAASLN webinar is about Disability services on the colleges’ campus broadening out their services to work with the broad array of students with special needs that have gotten their HSE and are enrolled in community colleges. They do not have a “disability” and yet they have lots of special needs. Leanne Baumeler heads up a Disability Services Office and has a remarkable track record working with students to ensure that they will be successful with their first semester in community college. For those who are looking at the implications of WIOA and building solid partnerships, I believe that the information in this webinar will be very valuable.
