Description: Many adults who did not do well in school as children suffer from test anxiety. Years of struggling to learn or to demonstrate what they know on tests creates fears of shame, disappointment, and embarrassment - all of these can evolve into an extreme aversion toward both paper and pencil tests and new computerized testing.

■ Learn why the worst thing a teacher can say to a student with test and/or computer anxiety is “Don’t worry, it will be OK.”

■ Help students understand the symptoms of test anxiety and why it obstructs their learning.

■ Explore techniques for reducing computer test anxiety.

Description: Categorizing students’ learning styles has become a popular as a way of differentiating teaching strategies. Yet many adult learners do not know how they learn best. They are not attuned to the behaviors they engage in that limit their success. In this webinar, the presenter will discuss six styles of avoidance behavior, explain the avoidance activities of each style, and provide techniques that can help adult learners break these avoidance patterns.

■ Understand why some adult learners engage in avoidance behaviors even though they state that they want to learn.

■ Learn the six styles of avoidance and the behaviors that are associated with them.

■ Review the Avoidance Worksheet designed to help students become aware of the avoidance behaviors and develop a plan to break their patterns of avoidance.

About the Presenter

Richard Cooper

Richard Cooper, Ph.D. is the Founder and Director of the Center for Alternative Learning, an organization providing educational and social support to adults and children who have learning problems. Dr. Cooper is a nationally recognized expert on alternative instructional techniques. He maintains a private practice through which he provides assessment, counseling and tutoring.
