Overview

 

The Assistant Director is a member of the Secondary and Adult Division of the Agency of Education, working under the direct supervision of the Division Director. Working as part of a team, the Assistant Director develops the Division’s strategic plan and is responsible for the operational steps; works with staff to develop work plans to advance the Division and Agency strategic plans; and assists the Director in managing the Division budget. The Assistant Director also serves as the State Director of Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) and in that capacity leads the AEL work group. The job responsibilities fall into five major categories.

Major Job Responsibility: Provide direct and indirect support for the work of the Director and perform the functions of the Director as assigned.

Major Job Responsibility: Coordinate and supervise work groups and project teams within the Division as assigned.

  • Lead and supervise the Adult Education and Literacy work group, and serve as the State Director of Adult Education.
  • Supervise the work of the Title III Coordinator (ELL).

Major Job Responsibility: Oversee the development and implementation of state and federal grants administered through the Division as assigned.

Major Job Responsibility: Coordinate the work of the Division as it relates to high school transformation.

Major Job Responsibility: Serve as a liaison to the State Legislature on behalf of the Division and the Agency as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in education or closely related field AND five (5) years or more of professional level experience in education administration or other leadership position in an educational organization or related non-profit or social sector organization.
