Implementing the "Adult Education Teacher Competencies"

Noting the diversity of adult education teachers and the contexts in which they work, the Adult Education Teacher Competencies focus on instruction and learning in order “to support the essential role an adult education teacher plays in any context” (p. 2).

Given the variety of contexts across the county, how are state and local programs adapting the implementation of the competencies to accommodate variations in personnel, setting and capacity? 

Adult Education Teacher Competencies

The Adult Education Teacher Competencies report is the foundation for the Adult Education Teacher Competencies Self-Assessment tool. The competencies, performance indicators and sample illustrations in the report can be used in whole group or small group activities to deepen understanding of effective instruction.

Trainers can use the Adult Education Teacher Competencies Self-Assessment with teachers to help them reflect on their practice and identify areas for their professional development.
