President Obama's Upskill Initiative

Technology moderator, David Rosen, shared the following information on President Obama's Upskill Initiative.  Last Friday, the White House hosted Upskill Summit, with 150 employers, labor leaders, foundations, non-profits, educators, tech innovators, and corporations.

Economic and Social Dividends under WIOA

An added benefit of Making Skills Everyone's Business is that "[r]esponding to this unmet demand for service would pay not only economic but also social dividends for communities." (p.7)


Questions:

What are the economic and social dividends most needed in your communities?  What resources do you need to support our collective effort for developing these dividends in your communities? Who else do we need to collaborate with in order to achieve shared goals?  

WIOA comment period opens, with directions for submissions

The comment period for the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act begins today, April 16th, and will remain open until June 15th, 2015.  You can read more about the proposed rulemaking, and instructions for submitting comments at the Federal Register's website.

WIOA Quick Start Action Planners: A New Implementation Tool

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Quick Start Action Planners (QSAPs) are web-based self-assessment tools designed to help state and local leaders identify areas of strength and challenges as they prepare their workforce systems for the implementation of WIOA.

The QSAP is designed for leaders in the public workforce system at the state and local levels. You can complete a QSAP in 20-30 minutes, and then discuss the results with your team to develop a common understanding of your readiness to implement WIOA.

OCTAE is providing a series of informational sessions for state adult education directors to facilitate their understanding  of the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and provide information on implementation and  transitions to the new law.  On July 22, 2014, the President signed into law the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), which revises and reforms the primary federal programs that support employment services, workforce development, adult education, and vocational rehabilitation activities.
