Dear PIAAC Literacy Circle colleagues, 

I am creator of MakeBeliefsComix.com, a free comic generator that is used by educators around the world to encourage literacy and communication by students.   I am writing to you with the hope I can get on your radar when you’re testing useful digital resources to help students express their ideas and improve their writing, reading and communication skills.

Basic Skills and Poverty, PD / Awareness-raising resource

Dear PD Colleagues:

I think you may find this 3 1/2 minute video on the link between literacy, numeracy and computer skills to the poverty cycle interesting. A growing body of research shows that parents pass advantage or disadvantage to their children, the video reports. Although it doesn't reference PIAAC data, it is consistent with the phase one findings for the U.S. It was made by The Center for Community Solutions and The Literacy Cooperative in Cleveland.
