Bulletin: Strengthening Education and Workforce Development for Justice-Involved Young Adults

With support from the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education, RTI International invites community partnerships to join a technical assistance initiative to improve the outcomes of justice-involved young adults (ages 16–24). This new initiative will connect these youths with career and technical education (CTE), workforce development, and special education services.

Communities selected to participate in this free training must engage the following partners:

Event: Pay for Success Competition to Develop Greater Opportunity in CTE

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Social Finance and Jobs for the Future (JFF) are hosting the first Pay for Success competition in K-12 education to provide technical support to develop and expand career and technical education (CTE) programs for underserved, high-need youth. The resulting projects will create and scale effective programs and connect students to educational opportunities that increase their economic mobility.

Event: Aligned by Design: WIOA & Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE)

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) goes into effect on July 1, 2015, and offers new opportunities for the workforce system and Career and Technical Education (CTE) to work together. Whether a state creates a “Combined Plan” that includes WIOA and the State Plan for Perkins, or a state writes a “Unified Plan,” the state should consider how these programs can best work together to prepare individuals for careers that meet employer skill needs. This webinar discusses some key areas where alignment can occur.

Notice: Disabilities & Correctional Ed – A Special Discussion, Jan. 12-14

Secure, correctional facilities house and offer educational programming to diverse populations, which may include individuals with assorted learning disabilities from mild to severe. From January 12 – 14, the LINCS Community will host the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and Five Keys Charter School, which provides education services to San Francisco and Los Angeles’ County Jail, for a special discussion on Adult Learning Disability Populations within Secure, Correctional Facilities.
