Teaching English for Health

Hi Everyone,

I want to pass on this description of a really great program that they have been doing in Wisconsin for quite a while now. We mentioned it in our recent discussion, Health Literacy in ABE and ESOL - Part 4: What People are Doing? Take a look and let us know what you think!

Health Literacy: an "IN" for 2014!

Hi Everyone,

Did you see Miriam's recent post in the ELL Group about What's in and what's out for adult ESL in 2014?

I was pleased to see that many of the features on the "in" list fit beautifully with teaching health literacy:

Call for Presenters- Florida Literacy Conference

The Florida Literacy Coalition is currently recruiting presenters for our annual Conference. This year, the Conference will take place May 7-9 in Daytona Beach. As a presenter, you will receive the benefits of priority registration and networking with your peers. You can also enjoy a savings of $25.00 off the regular registration rate.

Please use this opportunity to share your wisdom, techniques, research and promising practices in adult and family literacy with others from across the state.

Health Literacy and Pathways to Health Careers

Hi There,

I'm new to this group, and come from a background in health literacy. There is a discussion going on right now in the Health Literacy Group, and the issue of preparing for health careers came up. I would love to hear from some of you in this group about the question I posed.

Please see this thread:

Health Literacy in ABE and ESOL: Join our discussion to address the numeracy needs of health!

Hello Numeracy Folks!

I want to invite you over to the Health Literacy Group to join a series of discussions about how to help our students use new skills to access healthcare, understand public health concerns, and take better care of their health from day to day.
