(WEBINAR) Supporting Student Success: Supporting the Whole Student

On May 9, 2017, from 2-3 p.m. (EST), the U.S. Department of Education’s Supporting Student Success project team will host a webinar titled Supporting Student Success: Supporting the Whole Student. The one-hour webinar will provide promising practices in adult education and developmental education programming which leads towards greater student success and completion.

Supporting Student Success: Contextualized Learning

On January 19, 2017, at 1 p.m. (EST), the U.S. Department of Education’s Supporting Student Success project team will host a webinar titled Supporting Student Success: Contextualized Learning. This webinar will address “contextualization program design” and present research supporting it as an educational strategy.

Chronic Absenteeism in Adult Education

Chronic absenteeism is gaining national attention as we look at this impact on school success for students. Absenteeism is gaining attention of the U.S. Secretary of Education, John B. Kinng, Jr. He states,"Missing school leads to low academic achievement and triggers drop outs. Millions of young people are missing opportunities in postsecondary education, good careers and a chance to experience the American dream." If students struggle with participation in traditional public school, how can we expect these patterns to change in adult education?

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) is committed to supporting community college students and, in turn, strengthening the coordination and alignment between adult education and developmental education programs at community college campuses to better prepare students for the 21st century job market.

I was at the MPAEA 2014 conference this week and was asked by a couple of folks about how they can find examples of Student Success Courses that can be adapted for their programs.

I want to share some course content here that are available as Open Education Resources (OERs).
