In 2016 Only Computerized HSE Testing for New Jersey

Colleagues,

Apparently, beginning in January 2016, New Jersey will only allow taking HSE tests on a computer. I believe that NJ offers all three HSE tests, so presumably regardless of what HSE test they take test-takers must take it on a computer. "Paper-based testing will no longer be offered with the exception of those with a demonstrated need for a special accommodation." Source: http://www.state.nj.us/education/news/2015/1229adult.htm

I wonder how this will work for those in corrections and jails. Are there computer-based testing centers in prisons and jails in NJ?

I wonder, too, how this will affect the number of people signing up to take HSE tests.

Anyone from NJ care to share your thinking about this new policy?

Are any other states planning to follow NJ in only allowing computerized HSE testing?

Good morning!

The GED® test is currently offered on computer in correctional facilities across more than 30 states, including at least one county jail in New Jersey. The key thing to remember is while the correctional test-taker is taking the GED® test on computer he or she is not online during the test.

Approximately 25 states across the country offer high school equivalency testing exclusively on computer.

Taking a HSE exam is the culmination of countless hours of preparation. Regardless of which HSE test is used, the key is to integrate quality instruction and appropriately aligned curriculum. However, many facilities struggle with integrating 'online' learning in secure environments. The i-Pathways project has a solution for facilities. Check it out at https://ipathways.wordpress.com.
