health websites for beginners?

Hello colleagues, We are focused on the topic of health in my beginning ESL class, and I'm looking for some good online resources that students can use to study on their own at home. I am aware of the health lessons at REEPWorld, and I do recommend this site. I'm interested in a site that gives students practice with health-related vocabulary -- that is not designed for children. One site I came across today was new to me Creative English Vocabulary, which I like because they use YouTube videos to present vocabulary, and the videos feature beautiful photographs; however, there are no exercises or games for students to practice. Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

Hello, Susan,

The Florida Literacy Coalition folks have a whole curriculum for teaching health literacy that has a lot of ideas and activities.  Here is a link:  http://floridaliteracy.org/health_literacy_curriculum.html .  It has been downloaded thousands of times.  I have colleagues here in Alabama who used and found it to be a good one.  Check out Wisconsin Literacy as well.  http://wisconsinliteracy.org/health-literacy/what-we-do/projects.html

Best, Linda

Thank you for these links, Linda. Another site that I've drawn upon is the Queen's Library Health Literacy Curriculum for ESOL materials. You can read a review of this resource and find a link to it in the LINCS Resource collection here.

The materials include lessons for beginners and intermediate students.

I welcome more suggestions for online health literacy materials, particularly for low level students.
