The U.S. economy is rapidly changing. With Uber and Lyft drivers, Etsy stores, and techs-for-hire on Craigslist, new opportunities are opening up for beginning entrepreneurs. This “informal” sector of the economy has exploded with the increase in social media sites that allow for easier matching of needed tasks to offered services, and robust rating systems, such as Yelp!, that provide a trusted endorsement system. “Entrepreneurial skills training and microenterprise services” are now acknowledged as required strategy in the workforce development system (Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act: Title I, Section 108(b)). Learn how to connect housing residents and job seekers to the online platforms that run the informal economy and find resources to help them be successful. The Webinar will feature speakers from the HP Life Foundation (http://www.life-global.org/), Samaschool (http://www.samaschool.org/), and the Rockford Housing Authority.
