Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Divisional Dean is responsible for the organization and administration of
the Division and provides educational leadership and support for all programs
within the Division. Programs include Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary
Education, English as a Second Language and Citizenship, Career Pathway
programs, bridge transition programs, Adult Volunteer Literacy, and English
Language-Civics. The Dean is responsible for fostering the following
commitments: securing the relationships of the various instructional
disciplines within the Division in the context of the established educational
philosophy and policies of the College, and ensuring through the divisional
offerings the opportunity for students to pursue educational programs in the
most efficient and orderly manner. Additionally, the Dean seeks to maintain
knowledge of the county's present and potential interest in the Division's
and the College's instructional services. The office represents the
Division's unique tasks along with its interests and needs to the College
while simultaneously coordinating and merging the Division into the College's
defined philosophy, missions, goals and strategic plan. The Dean works
closely with other Divisional Deans in the development of procedures and in
the administration of the Divisions to ensure consistency in the
interpretation and application of policy.

The Divisional Dean is authorized to schedule course offerings and instructor
assignments, in accordance with established faculty load policies and the
adjunct faculty contract; to expend funds within budget allocations to the
Division; to approve travel for professional purposes and program/staff
development projects; to approve faculty absence and to provide for class
substitution, in accordance with college policies; to appoint committees for
Division affairs; to direct the recruitment of full-time faculty; to evaluate
faculty and staff assigned to the Division; to recommend faculty for
re-employment and tenure; to recruit and evaluate part-time faculty; to
direct the evaluation of programs; to convene Division meetings as
appropriate; and to represent the Division as a college spokesperson to the
community at large.

Required Qualifications:
Meeting the requirements to be a full-time faculty member in one of the
disciplines/programs offered by the division, i.e., a Master's degree or
higher in one of the disciplines/programs offered by the division (TESOL,
ESOL, Linguistics, Adult Education); or a Bachelor's degree in one of the
disciplines/programs offered by the division and a Master's degree; or a
Master's degree or higher in Education or a related area.

Three (3) to five (5) years of administrative experience in an Adult Basic
Education, GED or ESL program.

Three (3) to five (5) years of experience with state and federal grants.

Desired Qualifications:
Minimum of three (3) years teaching experience with non-traditional adult
populations in Adult Basic Education, GED or ESL, including teaching in
corporate and community-based organizations.

Experience in developing innovative adult education programming leading to
credentials and employment.

Understanding of the role of technology in providing adult education
programming including technology-based delivery systems.

• Direct, supervise, schedule, and evaluate all ALC employees
