June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month

June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month. PTSD was first brought to public attention in relation to war veterans, but it can result from a variety of traumatic events. It is estimated that 7 to 8 percent of the American population will develop PTSD at some point in their lives. These resources are listed on Workforce GPS, to help overcome misconceptions about PTSD, and to help promote promising partnering strategies with American Job Centers.

Do you have learners dealing with PTSD?  If so, what are some the the steps you’ve taken to help support them in the classroom?

Friends,

Trauma is becoming widely discussed and I highly recommend Nadine Harris Burke's book Healing in the Heart of Trauma

To always keep my mind in tune with issues, I use Twitter and follow:

You can also follow the hashtag #PTSDAwarenessMonth

As we look at strategies for individuals who struggle with PTSD, we also need to look at the entire family.

Sincerely,
Kathy
