Hello colleagues, The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has made some practical suggestions for ways to communicate with children about COVID-19 available in multiple languages. Of course, every parent determines what is most appropriate for their family, and the ages of the children is an important part of that consideration.

Among the NASP's suggestions are:

  • Stay calm, listen and offer assurance
  • Monitor television viewing and social media
  • Take time to talk
  • Be honest and accurate
  • Keep explanations age-appropriate
  • Stay connected to  children's school
  • Know the symptoms of COVID-19
  • Model basic hygiene and basic healthy lifestyle practices
  • Be aware of chilidren's mental health

You can read more details about each of these suggestions at the link. As you encounter additional relevant resources in various languages, please link us to them here.

Stay safe, Susan Finn Miller
