Hi there,
Can you direct me to a website where I can download job-specific vocabulary and speech (phrases, dialogs)? I need printable materials, since our students do not have access to computers. My students' needs range from food preparation, food service, auto technician/mechanic, farm equipment, preschool instructor, and nursing assistant.
Thank you! Trensa

Check out the "Project Hotel T.E.A.C.H. Curriculum" at http://www.lagcc.cuny.edu/ciet/work_HT_Cur.html. You can find a review of this curriculum at http://lincs.ed.gov/professional-development/resource-collections/profile-229.
Thank you, Donna and all of you who sent in suggestions.

Trensa, could you share the additional suggestions you received with the rest of the Career Pathways Community? I know you asked other LINCS COPs for the same information, and anything you received from those groups would surely be of interest to us as well.
What a great resource- it could also be adapted for native English speakers with low literacy levels. Thanks for sharing.
New Readers Press has a good collection of workplace materials. The books cover grammar and workplace content and use a variety of job types as examples. It's beginner/intermediate level.
Canada’s National Adult Literacy database is searchable and downloadable. I pulled out these sites but there are many more. Check the date of publication. Also review the materials because Canadian government agency and social service reference are not the same as United States and individual US states. Massachusetts Dept of Elementary and Seconday Education in collaboration with some others has produced a curriculum guide titled Integrating Career Awareness into the ABE & ESOL Classroom. I don't remember who I talked to, but she sent me a CD that has the curriculum, sample lessons, and handouts. It is copyrighted to NCTN (National College Transition Network) and SABES (System for Adult Basic Education Support). I am finding it very useful as we rewrite our ESL curriculum to include career awareness, technology, and College and Career Readiness Standards.
Contemporary published the Make your Mark series that includes Make Your Mark in Food Service, Health Service, Hotel Industry, and Retail Jobs.
