Problem to Ponder: Decimals

Hello, Math and Numeracy Members,

It has been a bit since we had a math puzzle. I came across this one in an email from open middle problems and thought this would be a good problem to ponder.

Here's the problem: Using the digits 1 through 9 exactly once, place a digit on each link to make three decimals whose sum is as close to 1 as possible when added together.

            0._ _ _
           0._ _ _
       +  0._ _ _
______________

Here is a link to the problem, in case you want to see the image of it.

Let's have some fun, and share your guesses, ponderings, wonderings, etc.

First, link won't let me in, but I can see the problem here.

My first thought is to use 2, 3 and 4 for the first places since they add up to 9

.... except then the rest of the places will "carry" -- BUT it won't "break" if it goes over 1 prob'ly the next smallest ones in the next place... but maybe 1, 2 and 4 would be better b/c then 3, 5 and 6 could go in the next one...
