Changes to Formative Assessment Group

Greetings LINCS Community,

As the community continues to grow and mature, we strive to listen to feedback from our members and leaders. We have heard from a number of you that the Formative Assessment group’s name may be limiting the conversations taking place within the group. We are pleased to announce that  the group will be changed to “Assessment.”  Within the Assessment group, members are invited to discuss both summative and formative assessment.  As an initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Education, LINCS cannot endorse or show preference toward any particular test; however, we encourage members to talk about how programs and teachers can enhance their practice to teach effectively to the content standards.  The corresponding LINCS Resource Collection will be renamed, as well, and resources will be updated to include materials on assessment.

With this change also comes a new group moderator! We are excited to introduce Dr. Susan Finn Miller as the new subject matter expert / moderator for the Assessment group. Susan has worked as a teacher and teacher educator in Pennsylvania for over 20 years, having taught ABE, GED, and all levels of ESL in various contexts. She also regularly facilitates professional development opportunities at the state and national levels and teaches graduate courses on topics related to adult literacy.

LINCS expresses the utmost gratitude for the dedication and hard work that previous subject matter expert and moderator Marie Cora brought to this group.  Marie has been a part of the LINCS family for about 10 years, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

If you have any questions or concerns about these changes to the Assessment group, please let us know by using the Contact Us tab.

Best,

Jo
