In November, two of the LINCS Community groups, Career Pathways and Postsecondary Completion, are planning to highlight resources such as program implementation tools, archived webinars and online courses from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Adult Education funded project, Designing Instruction for Career Pathways (DICP). These resources are now available within our LINCS Resource Collection, if you use the search term – DICP. We hope that highlighting these professional development materials will impact your program and practice.
This week I want to highlight the free online course, Integrating Career Counseling and Planning into Adult Education. This self-paced course should take about 3 hours to complete. This course is intended for adult educators, administrators, coaches, case managers, transition specialists, career counselors and others working with adult learners seeking to transition to the next step along a career pathway. The course features three modules: (1) Career Counseling and Planning Programs; (2) Individual Career Development Plan Process; and (3) Transition to Employment and Postsecondary Education. LINK

If you have never signed up for an online course on the LINCS portal, then you have to setup a login for the Learning Portal. You can keep it simple and just use the same login credentials as the LINCS Community and once your registration process is complete, you can start the course right away.

To add to Priyanka's post, all the resources housed in the Adult Career Pathways Training and Support Center (ACP-SC) have been transitioned to LINCS and can be located on the LINCS website on the ACP-SC landing page: http://lincs.ed.gov/programs/acp (In the Career Pathways Collection, you can also search DICP to pull up all the great instructional resources that were gathered by the project.)
On this week's topic of Integrating Career Counseling and Planning, as a preview to the Integrating Career Counseling and Planning online course, the Designing Instruction for Career Pathways project also filmed a webcast at the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) National Conference this year. The webcast featured the following panelists:
It spotlighted research and best practices on how to incorporate career awareness, planning, and couseling at the program and classroom level, and panelists answered questions from the audience and the field via Twitter (#CreatePathways).

For those of you who continue to be interested in the topic of Integrating Career Counseling and Planning, the April 2013 issue of Adult Career Pathways (ACP) News, the e-newsletter of the Designing Instruction for Career Pathways project, featured the state of Texas and builds upon what Joanie Rethlake mentioned in the webcast (see my post above) and talks about how Texas took the Integrating Career Awareness (ICA) curriculum to scale. There is also a Q&A section in the newsletter with Beth Thompson, Assistant Director, Texas LEARNS.
