Addressing Domestic Violence

Hi Everyone,

I saw the posting in the bulletin section about the Trainings for Healthcare Professionals to Address Domestic Violence. I asked someone from the The Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV) if they also do awareness talks with people from the community, for example in adult literacy classes. They do community education and test their messages with adults with lower literacy, but have not done so with ABE students.

Most states should have a similar organization, and it may be something to keep in mind if you are partnering with health programs or planning guest visits to your classes.

So I am wondering from you all if you ever address domestic violence in your classes, and how you handle it?

It is a difficult thing to be sure, but it must be there under the surface quite often. This may be one of the most sensitive health topics that may come up.

Would love to hear your thoughts,

Julie
