Adult ESL Writing Survey

Hi everyone,

Some of you may remember me from my years as an adult ESL instructor at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina. Although I now teach college students, I stay connected to the field by supporting my adult ESL friends with curriculum development and anything else they might need. As I've often heard people say, "Once an adult educator, always an adult educator".

Joy Peyton (Center for Applied Linguistics), Kirsten Schaetzel (Formerly CAL, now teaching writing at Georgetown Law School) and I have been trying to learn more about writing instruction in adult ESL for a while. Much of the recent writing research out there is specific to academic ESL programs and is of limited use to the field, so we put together a survey to find out what adult ESL programs are doing with respect to writing instruction in these times of (even more than usual) transition.

We would very much appreciate it if you would complete our 20-minute survey and share the link below with your colleagues, administrators and instructors alike.

We will present the findings through this forum as well as in TESOL in March. Our hope is that adult ESL programs will be able to use the results to show all the work programs around the country are doing to prepare students for college-and-career transitions and to advocate for funding, resources and training.

If anyone has questions about the survey, please feel free to email me directly. The deadline for completing the survey isJanuary 7th.
