Although post-secondary education is an important part of a career pathways system, many adult basic skills learners who seek jobs or careers are not ready for, interested in, or able to afford post-secondary education. What alternatives are available for them?
"It's no Longer 'College or Bust' " is an article that addresses that question; it's by Jacob Murray, and appeared today in Boston Radio Station WBUR's online magazine, Cognoscenti. After you have read the article, tell us what you think. Are these promising alternative career pathways? Have you been reading other articles or books that offer this perspective, but in greater depth? As Career Pathways proponents, should we be able to offer adult learners these kinds of alternatives? If so, what are the implications for complying with WIOA regulations? Are these alternative programs allowable alternatives? If not, should they be? What are some good ways to prepare adult learners for these alternative to college career pathways preparation programs?
