an assets-based approach

Hello colleagues, It's important to recognize the assets a learner bring to the classroom. As blogger Valentina Gonzalez writes "When we value what our students bring, we recognize their history and knowledge and use it as a foundation for their future learning. We take what we know about them and leverage it in our classrooms to propel their growth and progress in language and content. We help students understand that what they currently come to us with is helping them get smarter."

Gonzalez suggests that we make learners' assets our number one teaching priority. What might this mean in your context?
