The Big Read: funding for month-long community reads

This funding opportunity may be of interest to libraries, adult literacy programs and other organizations.

The Big Read - Proposal due by 1/28/2015

Grants support community projects that encourage reading for pleasure. The grants provide participating US communities with resources to support their efforts to read and discuss a single book or the work of a poet. Grantees conduct month-long, community-wide reads through June 2015. Allowable expenses include book purchases, speaker fees and travel, salaries, advertising and venue rental. Library-led applications are preferred, however, literacy centers, museums, colleges and universities, art centers, historical societies, arts councils, tribal governments, humanities councils, literary festivals and arts organizations are also eligible. K–12 schools, school districts and boards of education are not eligible applicants, but they may partner with those who apply. Funding requires 1:1 match http://www.neabigread.org/application_process.php
