Building Math Skills Through Reading

Colleagues,
I want to invite you to review the article, Reading Can Expand What Kids Think About Mathematics. The article starts with, "I love reading about math. Not dry textbooks, but texts that bring to life the people who do math as a profession. Or texts that introduce strange or unexpected ideas in ingenious ways and leave my heart pounding. Or texts that make me think about mathematics and mathematicians differently."

I am curious if anyone has used literature about math experts to bring math to life for students. If so, which books do you recommend? And why?

We've discussed online book discussions for professional development and asked what you are reading, so I'd love to hear what you're reading in math literature with students and how you use these resources as a way to connect math literature into the classroom to improve math awareness. Or, could you see using the books in the article as a professional development resource for program book clubs?

I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
