A conversation in the Advancing Equity Group around cultural barriers in CTE lead a member of that community to share a recent video of the work of Clyde McBride. Mr. McBride is the director of Career and Technical Education (CTE) in Kayenta Unified School District, in Arizona. He has built a veterinary-sciences program that provides students with meaningful opportunities to support the Navajo community, where many students' families depend on livestock as their source of employment.
A member of the Advancing Equity Group said that she is curious to know more about the prevalence and effectiveness of similar programs that address a communities' economic needs, while also honoring its cultural traditions. What are some other examples of this in your communities? Let's highlight them here, and share them widely. If these are the programs that we hope to see for our students and communities, we have to start celebrating their successes.
