Common Core Lessons Available from Achieve

Greetings,

Just last week Achieve released 50 lessons and units in English language arts/literacy and mathematics that are available to all educators.  The lessons come from K-12 instructors, but with adaptations would be a high-quality resource for the adult educator too.  These lessons were reviewed by a panel of expert reviewers who were trained in the use of the EQuIP Rubrics.  Some have an Exemplar rating that states it is well-aligned with the Common Core Standards and others have received Exemplar if Improved label that according to the Achieve rubric will require some type of improvement.  A list of all these resources can be found here.  Please share your thoughts and ideas about how these resources can be adapted for adult learners.  I wonder what you think.

I did take time today to go through the Math Vocabulary Card APP. Each card has 3 boxes - the word, a picture in context for the word, and a "mathy" definition. The left-most icon at the bottom of the Web-APP allows the teacher to choose the cards. That is the positive. The definitions on each card are way beyond low-level math learners. The common prepositions (beside, outside, next to, etc.) and comparisons (small/smaller/smallest) would be good for ELL students. In some settings these can be helpful.

There is also an on-line geoboard APP, pattern shapes, and a number line. When you get into the APP, there does not appear to be an age-linked picture. All these APPs are FREE.

Thanks for posting a message about these apps and their usefulness, Dorothea. We appreciate your noting that some of this math vocabulary would be useful for English learners. Let's hear from other teachers who are using these --or other apps-- or who may want to explore these tools.
