Comprehending academic text

Hello colleagues, I'm currently teaching a group of learners who are preparing to transition to post secondary. The focus in the class is on building learners' skills for comprehending academic text. I am interested in integrating effective ways to scaffold academic content to make it accessible. It is my view that my explaining everything to students is not helpful. I want learners to grow in their ability to effectively grapple with text on their own. The students in my class are language learners at an advanced level.

What do you think of the structure for scaffolding academic text demonstrated by high school teacher Matt Clements in this brief Teaching Channel video? Would this method work in your context? What do you see as the pros and cons of this approach?
