Correctional and Reentry Education Resource from Open Door Collective

For those working with adults in correctional or reentry settings, a recent issue brief from the Open Door Collective may be useful in promoting the value of educational programming (or even in writing grant applications). The issue brief is called Education in Adult Basic Skills Can Contribute to Reducing Incarceration and Alleviating Poverty. Citing recent research studies, the issue brief covers topics such as:

  • why adult education matters in the criminal justice system,
  • how effective education is in reducing recidivism,
  • how adult education supports reentry, and
  • return on investment of correctional education

The issue brief also touches briefly on future areas of research. As you think about these topics, what research questions in correctional or reentry education would it be helpful to your work to address? I will be curious to hear your suggestions!
