Creating Boot Camps for HSE Programs

Colleagues,

I would like to open a discussion about boot camps. The concept for a High School Equivalency Boot Camp is that a short course is offered to students who are NRS level 5 or 6., However, boot camps can also be developed as an introduction to the adult education program.

For HSE boot camps, students are given an accelerated curriculum in math, science, social studies, and language arts. For programs using the boot camp concept for orientation, these camps include initial testing, orientation to the program expectations, study tips, and discussions on overcoming barriers to participation. During this time, students and programs are developing success plans.

Does your program offer any form of a boot-camp? If so, do you use them as an orientation or as a fast track for HSE completion? What curriculum do you cover? I'm looking forward to learning more about boot camps in adult education.

Sincerely,
Kathy Tracey
