Database Managaement for Student Progress

We are a culinary job training program and we are seeking to improve our database to track student information and progress. Excel spreadsheets are not robust enough. We are currently using MS Access -- but it's clunky and nearly obsolete. What do you use to track your student success?

 We track:

  • demographics and some personal data (e.g., receipt social supports such as SNAP, etc)
  • grades
  • assignments/requirements
  • internship and job placement
  • activities as an alum - and add to mailing list
  • and several other details, including tracking applicants through the interview process.

What programs do you use to hold all this sorts of data? Any pros or cons to them?

Did you get it "off the shelf" or did you have someone create it for you (e.g., a redesigned Filemaker Pro)? DO you have tech support for ti?

 Please advise!

 Thanks

Hi Mev! I hope you are well. My colleagues use a product called Xenergrade (http://xenegrade.com). They are all pleased with it. (I use ASISTS because it is what is required by the NYSED - but they offer courses similar to what you describe and I do not.) Xenegrade was designed by an adult ed colleague (Rick Stern) several years ago. Those who use it tell me he has improved t several times according to consumer requests. I would suggest you check them out. I miss you!
