Deep Dive: Educating for Democracy in the Digital Age

Hello colleagues, The Teaching Channel has curated a great many resources in one place all focused on "educating for democracy in the digital age." At this link, you can find numerous articles, blogs and videos dealing with the intersection of democracy and digital literacy.

"What is civic learning? Civic learning is a process through which [learners] develop the knowledge, skills, and commitments to interact effectively with others, improve their communities and the broader society, and participate in democracy."

Check out this video that highlights what civic learning is. While the focus is on high school students, these ideas are equally relevant for the learners we serve in adult education. Here are some questions to prompt your thinking while viewing the video:

  1. "Why is digital literacy so important in civic education?
  2. How do civic engagement projects help students to be college, career, and community ready?
  3. How can you bring civic engagement opportunities into your own classroom?"

You are invited to share your thoughts on this timely topic.
