DIE model useful in orientation

I find that using the Describe-Interpret-Evaluate model in orientation programs is quite useful. I have often used it when discussing culture shock in my previous life as an international student advisor.  We may be talking about or acting out an interaction on the sidewalk or entering a building - you pass someone who says, "Hey, how's it going?" but then doesn't wait around for your answer, or the president of the university holds a door open for you.  I think using scenarios like these in my speaking and listening classes and using the DIE model might be a really good exercise. Not only would the scenarios be immediately relevant to the students' lives but the students would also learn a valuable skill in reacting to potential culture shock situations.

Hi Sarah, Thanks for posting this message about using the DIE model as part of orientation, an idea that has a lot of merit, in my view. Would you say more about how you might structure this as part of orientation?
