Discussion on Disability Awareness and Accommodations -- Do-IT Resource

Greetings Colleagues:

Yesterday, members of the Disabilities in Adult Education group began the discussion of disability awareness and accommodations by talking about their own personal experience as a person with a disability and teaching experiences with students that have disabilities. One take-away that I see -- we make assumptions about what a particular disability (e.g., physical, learning, etc) may mean in terms of barriers the person might face or accommodations they may need.  It reminded of a College Tutor Tip Sheet, Incorrect Assumptions, from the University of Washington, DO-IT (Disability, Opportunity, and Internetworking, and Technology) Center.  The student quotes may be eye-opening...maybe not. And, while you are on the DO-IT website, don't forget to look around at the other resources.

Remember, it is easy to join a group for a particular discussion or length of time -- just click on the Groups tab and select the group you are interested in adding.  And, don't forget to have notices sent immediately or through the digest.
