Hi, all.
I hope you are enjoying the end of year holidays. When we were just an electronic discussion group (Remember the English language acquisition [ELA] list?), I used to regularly - if not annually -- invite list members to post to the list their wish list of topics to discuss in the upcoming year.
I'd like to revisit that practice. Here is a list of topics. It's only some of what you might like to discuss and share resources on.
- The role of culture in learning a second or language
- What is differentiated instruction? How does it work for English learners?
- Working with beginning-level learners
- The role of technology in learning English
- What skills does it take to teach adult English learners?
- Integrated language and content instruction: How does it work with English learners?
- Developing civics content and English language skills
- Using the College and Career Readiness standards with English learners
- Preparing English learners for success in the workplace
- Helping high level students transition to ABE, high school equivalency, or post-secondary study
- Other?
Please use this thread to express which of these topics – or any others you name – you would like to focus on in the upcoming year.
Hope to hear from you.
Miriam
