Do you serve as a navigator?

Dear Colleagues:

The Office of Community College Research and Leadership newsletter features a strategy brief that describes the work of navigators in the Gulf Coast IT Consortium, which included nine community and technical colleges in Louisiana and Mississippi. In this consortium, navigators worked with prospective students to help them better understand the process of becoming a college student, along with the academic programs, job markets, and the process through which a student might receive credit for prior experience or work-based learning. Learn more, read Using Navigators to Support Student Success.  In addition, it is clear from the Navigator Training Manuel, created for the project by the National College Transition Network, that adult educators often function as navigators, both officially and unofficially.

Are you an official or unofficial navigator?  What do you find are the most important ways to help students navigate this passage to college and career training?
