Dreams of Creating Apps and INteractives for math, numeracy

Okay, for a while in the middle of this course, I was wondering if I was going to be able to actually do this -- and there are still moments!  But!

I'm diving into the home stretch of our college's "how to make Android apps" course, as well as Java II ... at which point I should have the skills to do some serious interactive authoring.   This has been an awesome course sequence with an awesome teacher ... and he mentioned TUesday that originally he'd thought there should be a third course (applying the skills to more advanced apps and programs, I assume). It's "Java I" in the fall, and "Android Apps" in the spring... Java II is optional but since it's the same teacher I am taking that 'cause it's face to face (okay, and it's usually fun).

All the courses are offered online -- so if anybody's interested in getting a powerful skillset ... and gosh, if a *group* of people were in it, there might even be enough demand for the third course... I had this amazing fantasy on my bike ride home of a cohort in a summer session making programs and apps for adult ed.  (By the way, the example project in the apps course is ... a math education lesson in slopes and intercepts.)

But... I'd better get back to my homework designing my "visualizing subtracting integers" app which hopefully I can turn into "tracing subtraction on the number line..."

HI Susan,

This sounds so intriguing, can you share a link to more information about the courses?  I'm taking a course on how to teach online and I agree with you that having a group of adult educators taking the course with me would make it even more amazing.  Here's the course I'm taking Professional Certificate in Online Education http://continuingstudies.wisc.edu/distance-education/pcoe.html.

best,

Nell
