Equity Focus for the Month of May: Rural CTE Students

Greetings, community members. I am pleased to announce that for the month of May we will be posting discussions and resources addressing equity for rural students.

Rural youth can face particular challenges arising from geographic isolation. There are multiple barriers that may impede their ability to attain a high-quality education or enter a CTE program. These barriers include: limited education options or available courses in the geographic area; limited student and parent access to career counseling about existing and emerging occupations; insufficient technology infrastructure; lack of access to a range of work-based learning experiences; lack of transportation; socioeconomic barriers; and lack of human and fiscal capacity.

We will be sharing ideas for solutions to some of these challenges, and hope that you will do the same. Please visit the community and join the discussion about increasing equity for rural CTE students.

Thank you!
