Family Literacy Activity

Colleagues,

On Friday we will begin our Family Literacy discussion.  Joining us for this discussion will be

  • Dr. Betsy Jones, Director of Polytech Adult Education/Family Literacy in Kent County, Delaware
  • Staci Croom-Raley, Executive Director for Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), based in Arkansas
  • Kirsten Wittkowski , Adult Education Coordinator and Instructor for Briya Public Charter School in the Washington, DC area.

While each of our guests will describe their programs and how they incorporate the four components of Family Literacy, I also invite you to explore these useful LINCS resources:

During this discussion, participants will:

  • Learn about family literacy from the perspective of guests from Poly Tech, Briya and HIPPY
  • Discuss ways to implement a family literacy model in local adult education programs, based on thePoly Tech, Briya and HIPPY models
  • Explore new ways to engage their adult learners, instructing them to teach their children, build their own literacy skills, and train them to confidently develop leadership skills in the process.

If you are not already a member of this group, please join so you can actively participate in the discussion.
