A few highlights from past discussions

Hello colleagues, In case you were busy and didn’t get to check out some of the valuable discussions held in the last month in our community, here are links to the threads along with some highlights.

How to effectively differentiate instruction

  • Learners in adult basic education classes always come to us with various strengths as well as needs. In this thread, you can learn about a couple of LINCS online courses that support teachers to address a wide range of learners’ needs.
  • What questions do you have about how to effectively differentiate instruction?

CrowdED Learning—Here are a BUNCH of CCRS and TABE 11/12 Aligned Resources!

  • Many teachers these days are highly motivated to locate instructional materials aligned to the CCRS and TABE 11/12. If that’s you, you are in luck! In this thread, you can learn about CrowdED Learning’s recently released alignment documents for a handful of high-quality free and open educational resources, with alignments to both the CCRS and TABE 11/12.
  • What specific instructional materials—aligned to standards and TABE 11/12-- would be most helpful to you in your teaching? What instructional materials can you share with our community?

Integrating Reading & Writing using Social Studies Content

  • In case you missed it, you may want to check out the rich discussion we had in March led by Kate Brandt, developer of the CUNY Curriculum Framework on using social studies content to teach reading and writing. Kate shared a wealth of ideas with us about content-based instruction during this discussion.
  • What social studies lesson that integrates reading and/or writing could you share with the community?

LINCS is an amazing venue for networking with adult basic education colleagues all across the US. Your questions and contributions to these and all discussions are welcome in our online community.

Cheers, Susan Finn Miller
