FREE evidence-based Extended Response writing workbook

Many adult educators agree that writing is the subject area that is undergoing the biggest transformation with the new high school equivalency exams.  Since the 5-paragraph essay has long been most adult educator's go-to move, it should be no surprise that high school equivalency scores have long showed most passers barely passing the essay portion of their test.  Even with those passing scores, many spend time and money in developmental ed classes at community college making up for their writing deficiencies (and often not advancing beyond that point).  High school equivalency's shift away from reflective writing about stories of a personal nature and towards evidence-based argumentation requires new teaching techniques.

With consultation from Bonnie Goonen and Susan Pittman-Shetler, lead trainers from the GED Testing Service, Essential Education has developed an Essential Writing Skills supplement for Extended Response writing that will be a big help to teachers looking to go deeper with their writing instruction.  These lessons will be featured in our full writing book, due to be released in May, but we're sharing the Extended Response supplement as a promotional giveaway in the meantime. If you'd like a copy sent to you, please let us know on this form.  The 128pg Essential Writing Skills mini-workbook was a big hit at the COABE conference, so please let us know if you didn't get one and would like a copy.
