Free financial literacy materials for English language learners and native speakers with limited literacy in English

I am posting this message for Carol Kando-Pinéda:

"The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is a small agency with a big mission: to keep American consumers safe from fraud, deception, and unfair business practices. We conduct investigations, enforce the law, and educate consumers about their rights – and businesses about their responsibilities.

The FTC worked with the Center for Applied Linguistics(CAL) to develop new materials that were designed to be useful to audiences we don’t always reach. These resources deal with credit, debt, identity theft, and avoiding scams, as well as budgeting, opening a bank account, shopping for prepaid cards, and managing money in general. The information is written in a plain and simple style for people with various levels of literacy, English language learners, and frankly, anyone who can benefit from concise and practical consumer information. It’s FREE, and available in English and Spanish.

We want to share these tools with you. We hope you’ll take a look, use them, share them, recommend them – and check out the free resources at www.consumer.gov and www.consumidor.gov. You can order as many copies of this information as you can use at www.ftc.gov/bulkorder. Once again, the materials are free.

We’d appreciate your comments or questions, too: Please contact us at consumer@ftc.gov [consumidor@ftc.gov].

Thanks!

Full disclosure – I and my colleagues in adult ESL projects at CAL worked on this project with Carol. I echo her request for comments and questions. Any comments you post in this CoP, I will forward to Carol.
