Discussions about current events often engage students as they see relevance in their life. So, where do we begin teaching about hurricanes with the recent devastation in Texas and Irma registered as a category 5? Scholastics has a short website with information about hurricanes. Students will learn how hurricanes form and the difference between tropical depressions and hurricanes. The Washington Post has a great article on understanding forecasts.

Will you teach students about hurricanes? If so, where will you begin?

Sincerely,

Our thoughts are certainly with our students, adult education programs, and members of our community, and all residents impacted by these storms.
