ICYMI: July Reflections

Colleagues,

During July, we had several different math discussions that focused on the development of lesson ideas and implementation.

Heidi Schuler-Jones shared information about her presentations at the Iowa State conference.  She spoke about social media in the math classroom and how to minimize barriers and maximize positive forces for students who are transitioning to college math.  Heidi also shared her struggles with finding OERs and began a discussion about continue to search or develop her own resources.  I encourage you to check these discussions out because Heidi is a member of our CoP, LINCS trainers, and an expert in adult numeracy.

Jeri Gue held a special discussion, “Three Goals in One Lesson” in which she looked at including math and ELA skills and focused in on where they overlapped.  She shared her resources on her google drive to the field and had a lively discussion on this topic.  The resources that Jeri shared in this discussion are extensive, I encourage you to check them out.

Call to Action: Join in the conversation on the Math and Numeracy COP.  Our community is a place practitioners, advocates, researchers, learners, policymakers, and others discuss mathematics and numeracy issues in adult education, including research and evidence-based practices, instructional strategies, and resources.  The community needs your expertise to create a place that is engaging and a resource for others in the field of adult education.  Let's continue our discussions here!

Sincerely,
